How long does SEO take?

For a competitive Perth commercial term, expect early movement in 8 to 12 weeks and a meaningful traffic difference over 6 to 12 months. Anyone promising page one in 30 days is either targeting terms nobody searches or is about to do something you will pay to undo.

Weeks 1–4: technical and foundations

Crawl and indexation fixes, page speed, internal linking, title and description rewrites, structured data, Google Business Profile and Search Console. This is the fastest-moving phase because you are removing friction rather than building authority.

Weeks 4–12: relevance

Pages get built or rewritten around specific search intent, one page per commercial theme. Impressions in Search Console usually move before clicks do — that is the first real signal, and it is the metric to watch in this window.

Months 3–12: authority and compounding

Content clusters, genuine coverage and links, and the accumulation of engagement signals. This is where a well-structured site starts pulling ahead, and where the difference between compounding organic growth and permanently renting traffic through ads shows up.

How to tell if it is working before rankings move

Leading indicators, in order of how early they appear:

  • Indexed pages and crawl errors in Search Console
  • Impressions for target query groups
  • Average position on page two and three terms
  • Clicks, then enquiries from organic

Local SEO moves faster

Map pack visibility for a Perth service business can change within weeks of Google Business Profile work, category corrections, consistent business details and review generation. If you need speed from organic, local is where it comes from.
